Six-day polio booster campaign begins in Peshawar and Khyber

PESHAWAR, Oct 26 (DNA):A six-day polio booster campaign began on Monday in selected polio-affected areas of Peshawar and Khyber district, targeting 1,111,107 children aged four months to 10 years across 48 union councils.

According to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), a total of 1,728 trained teams and 1,383 social mobilizers have been deployed to administer booster doses and raise awareness among parents about polio prevention.
In Khyber district, the campaign covers 30 selected union councils, where more than 211,000 children are targeted for vaccination. The district has deployed 700 trained teams and 594 social mobilizers for the campaign.
Polio teams will visit homes, schools, religious seminaries, healthcare facilities and community vaccination centres to ensure maximum coverage. Children aged five to 10 years in selected areas will also be administered polio drops.
Officials said the campaign aims to strengthen children’s immunity against the poliovirus and prevent its further spread in affected areas.
Parents have been urged to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that their children receive the required polio vaccine during the campaign.
Polio is a contagious disease that can cause permanent disability in children, while accination remains the most effective way to protect children against this disease.
