KARACHI: A senior officer’s team of Sindh Barrages Improvement project arrived at Sukkur barrage for supervision of replacement of six gates on emergent basis.
Project Director Ghulam MohiuDdin Mughal along with his team, Sindh Barrages Improvement Project -SBIP visited Sukkur Barrage for supervision of replacement of six gates on emergent basis.
Sajid Ali Bhutto deputy project director SBIP, Director Mechanical Noor Ul Arfeen, Dr Asgar Mahesar deputy director environment, environmentalist and communication specialists also visited the Sukkur Barrage.
The representatives (Resident Engineer) of PIC-Project Implementation Consultants briefed the visiting team that gate numbers 39 and 40 have been replaced while replacement of gate number 35 is under progress. However, remaining gates 34, 32 and 31 are under process of fabrication at Karachi engineering shipyard company.
PD-Project Director SBIP instructed the consultants that the hoist system of gate numbers 39 and 40 are not functioning properly that was informed by staff of Sukkur barrage as well as PMO-Project Management Office. He said that such type of error in the hoist system of 39 gate hoist system may be avoided.
He also held meeting with chief engineer Sukkur Barrage Syed Sardar Shah and brought under discussion performance of running work of replacement of six emergent gates and replacement of 50 gates in contract S1 to be awarded in late of 2021.
Chief Engineer Sukkur Barrage asked that work of replacement of six gates should be expedited for timely completion and safety of the Sukkur barrage.
Likewise, PD along with his team visited Guddu Barrage, and held meetings with consultants. RE -Resident Engineer of civil works chaudhery Anwar briefed regarding performance of contracts G-2 and G-3. He told the visiting team that replacement main gates of the barrage will be made after monsoon in September 2021. While, Bluckheads have been received by the contractor. DESCON has arranged training for staff and labor for installation bluck head gates at upstream and downstream of main gate number 32 and exercise of this installation of Bluckhead had been successfully been completed.
Moreover, Resident Engineer of civil works apprise the progress of contract G-3, the raising and widening of guide bunds on right is going on and also shank bund of right spur are under progress.
Whereas, land acquisition process of 500 feet extension of T Spur and 500 feet reduction of right J spur is under progress.
The process of land acquisition will be completed shortly to avoid any impact on rehabilitation of the right J spur and T spur.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of project director with NTDC/WAPDA, which was attended by representatives of NTDC/WAPDA, PMO and PIC.
The chair opened a forum for discussion and appraised the main purpose of holding a meeting to discuss with NTDC/WAPDA regarding upgrading methods and rehabilitation as per SOP of WAPDA.
The Chief Engineer NTDC/WAPDA informed the forum that NTDC WAPDA has financial, technical and procurement sections. However, coordination will be made concerning sections for mobilization of finance and a procurement process.
