Missing persons commission disposes of 5853 cases upto Aug 31

ISLAMABAD, SEP 01 (DNA) – The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances has disposed of 5853 cases upto August 31, 2021 as progress report issued by the commission for the month August, 2021.

According to the Report, the Commission received 8100 cases of alleged enforced disappearance from March 2011 to 31 July, 2021 from various areas of Pakistan.  During the month August, 2021, the Commission received 22 new cases with different dates of disappearance of persons mentioned in complaints.

Thus, total number of cases the Commission has received upto 31 August, 2021 works out to be 8122. Out of these cases, the Commission has disposed of 5853 cases including 56 cases during August, 2021.

In August, 2021 the Commission held hearings at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Quetta resulting in disposal of 14 cases pertaining to the Punjab, 09 cases pertaining to  the Sindh, 17 cases  pertaining to the  KPK and 14 cases pertaining to the Province of Balochistan, while 2 cases  pertained  to ICT.

Sub-Office of the Commission at Karachi has become fully active after the joining of Mr. Justice (Retd) Zia Parvez as Member of the Commission.

Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Hon’ble Chairman and Mr. Muhammad Sharif Virk, Member visited Lahore for hearing in cases pertaining to certain districts of Punjab. Similarly, Mr. Justice Fazal-ur-Rahman, Senior Member visited Quetta from 23-28 August, 2021.

During his visit, 61 cases were fixed for hearing out of which 14 cases have been disposed of and in all these cases, the disappeared persons have returned home. Moreover, Sub-Office of the Commission is being set up at Quetta, which is likely to become functional soon for regular hearings of the cases at Quetta for the convenience of families in Balochistan.

The relatives of missing persons have lauded the efforts of Honorable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal Chairman Missing Persons Commission and other Honorable members of Missing Persons Commission for taking personal interest in locating their near and dear ones who have returned home.
