ISLAMABAD, JAN 16 : After weeks of uncertainty and political wrangling, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has finally issued the notification appointing Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.

The announcement comes after considerable ado, with multiple rounds of consultations and delays that had kept the opposition benches without a formally recognized leader.

Achakzai, a veteran politician and head of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, was nominated for the post by PTI founder Imran Khan, a move that surprised many observers and reshaped the dynamics of opposition politics in the lower house.

The formal notification by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq now clears the way for Achakzai to assume his role, giving the opposition a unified voice in parliamentary proceedings.

His appointment is expected to influence upcoming debates on governance, accountability, and legislative priorities, while also signaling a new phase of cooperation between PTI and Achakzai’s party.
