ISLAMABAD, SEP 12 (DNA):Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan and current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI), hosted a luncheon in honour of Her Excellency Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), on the occasion of her visit to Islamabad.
H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty was in Islamabad to participate in a high-level event organized by UN Women Pakistan. The luncheon, held on the sidelines of her visit, brought together the Heads of Mission of ASEAN Member States based in Islamabad and Mr. Jamshed Kazi, Country Representative of UN Women Pakistan.
The event served as an opportunity to strengthen ties between AIPA, ASEAN Member States, and Pakistan, particularly in the context of parliamentary cooperation, gender equality, and regional development. Discussions centered around enhancing collaboration between AIPA and ASEAN diplomatic missions in Islamabad, with a focus on shared priorities such as women’s empowerment, inclusive governance, and inter-parliamentary dialogue.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Virabutr highlighted the important role AIPA plays in promoting parliamentary diplomacy within the ASEAN region and beyond. He expressed appreciation for H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty’s efforts in fostering cooperation among ASEAN parliaments and extending engagement with external partners like Pakistan.
H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty acknowledged the warm hospitality and underscored AIPA’s commitment to promoting partnerships with stakeholders in the region, including through collaboration with international organizations such as UN Women.
The luncheon concluded on a positive note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to deepening ASEAN’s engagement with Pakistan and supporting inclusive regional dialogue through multilateral cooperation.
