ISLAMABAD, APR 25: As the first light of dawn broke over the capital, the Australian High Commission hosted a solemn and moving ANZAC Day ceremony, honouring the enduring legacy of service, courage, respect, and mateship that defines the ANZAC spirit.
Held at the Australian High Commission, the ceremony was attended by diplomats, defence personnel, and members of the international community. Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins led the commemoration, paying tribute to the sacrifices of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers and all those who have served in conflicts past and present.
“ANZAC Day is a moment to reflect not only on the bravery of those who served at Gallipoli, but also on the shared values and sacrifices of all who serve for peace,”.
Turkish Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroğlu also attended the event, symbolising the powerful message of reconciliation between former adversaries. The enduring friendship between Australia and Türkiye, once forged on the battlefields of Gallipoli, now stands as a beacon of peace and mutual respect between nations.
The ceremony included the traditional laying of wreaths, the Last Post, a moment of silence, and national anthems, resonating deeply with those in attendance. The presence of representatives from various countries underscored the universal themes of remembrance and reconciliation that ANZAC Day carries across cultures and borders.
This year’s ANZAC Day message—one of unity, reflection, and peace—was a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict and the importance of fostering understanding between nations.
