BAKU, MAY 30 (DNA) — The Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran organized an official reception in Tehran to mark May 28 – Independence Day.

The event was attended by high-ranking Iranian officials, including Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, the governors of Ardabil and Gilan provinces, other officials, public and political figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps, senior military personnel, and members of the Azerbaijani community residing in Iran.

The ceremony began with the performance of the national anthems of both countries. In his address, Ambassador Ali Alizade highlighted the historical significance of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), emphasizing its profound impact on Azerbaijan’s national statehood and its role in laying the foundations for the country’s independent development.

The ambassador noted that the resumption of the embassy’s activities in July 2024, the implementation of high-level reciprocal visits, the first joint military exercises, and the signing of numerous important documents demonstrate that Azerbaijan-Iran relations are based on strategic foundations. “The Joint Statement signed at the presidential level marks the beginning of a qualitatively new stage in interstate relations,” he added.

In her remarks, Iranian Minister Farzaneh Sadegh noted that Iran was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence. She highlighted the joint projects implemented between the two countries and outlined future prospects for cooperation.

She described the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan this year as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations. The event also featured the screening of a short film titled “May 28 – Independence Day.” Additionally, an exhibition showcasing Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage was launched as part of the event. —DNA
