Babar and Rizwan slip, Haris and Shaheen shine in ICC T20I rankings

LAHORE, NOV 20: The latest ICC T20I rankings update has brought a mix of highs and lows for Pakistan’s cricketing stalwarts, with notable performances and competitive series reshaping the charts.

Pakistan recently faced off against Australia in a high-octane T20I series Down Under, clinching the three-match series 2-1 after stellar victories in Brisbane and Sydney.

This series was crucial for several players as they sought to cement their spots in the rankings. While some players showcased extraordinary performances, others faced a dip in their standings.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan slip

Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam, renowned for his consistency, experienced a slight dip in the T20I batting rankings. He moved from 4th to 5th position, reflecting a mixed performance against the Australian attack. Although Babar scored 140 runs in the series, including a gritty 75 in Brisbane, his competitors managed to outperform him in crucial moments.

Similarly, Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s reliable opener, slipped from 5th to 6th in the rankings. Rizwan had a challenging series, scoring 86 runs in three matches, falling short of his usual high standards.

Bowling stars shine: Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi make gains

Pakistan’s pace sensation Haris Rauf made a significant jump in the T20I bowling rankings, moving from 24th to 20th place. Rauf’s fiery spells were instrumental in Pakistan’s victories, as he consistently troubled the Australian batters with his sheer pace and accuracy, claiming 7 wickets in the series.

Shaheen Afridi, returning from injury, showcased his class and made a remarkable leap, climbing 10 spots to claim the 24th position in the bowling rankings. Shaheen’s match-winning 4-wicket haul in Sydney reminded fans and critics alike why he is considered one of the finest bowlers in the format.

Pakistan’s search for a dependable T20I all-rounder continues, but young players like Aamer Jamal have shown promise. Although he hasn’t broken into the top 20 rankings yet, his performances against Australia are indicative of his potential to rise in the coming months.

The rankings update also highlighted stellar performances from players around the world. Australia’s Adam Zampa climbed to 3rd in the bowling rankings, while Nathan Ellis rose to 11th, thanks to their dominant displays against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, India’s Tilak Varma made headlines by leaping an incredible 69 places to secure the 3rd spot in the batting rankings. His back-to-back centuries against South Africa were the highlight of the recent T20I fixtures.

The upcoming T20I series against New Zealand offers an opportunity for Pakistani stars to regain lost ground in the rankings. With a fresh batch of players knocking on the door, the team’s management will be keen to balance experience with youth to deliver strong performances on the international stage.
