ISLAMABAD: The Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad, hosted a delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka, on 3 August 2026. The visit focused on the growing significance of the aerial domain in contemporary and future conflicts, as well as the importance of strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the island nation. As an independent think tank, CASS remains committed to engaging with national and international academia, policymakers and practitioners working in the broader field of national security.
During the visit, Director Air Vice Marshal Nasser ul Haque Wyne (Retd) briefed the delegation on the four-day Pakistan–India conflict of May 2025. He highlighted how the Pakistan Air Force established air superiority through the effective integration of multi-domain operations, underscoring the evolving character of modern warfare and the role of technological innovation in achieving operational success. Research Assistant, Shaheer Ahmed, delivered a presentation on CASS research areas, findings and future aerospace development trajectories.
In his remarks, President CASS, Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd) emphasised the critical importance of indigenous technological development in strengthening national defence capabilities. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in this regard through the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP), which serves as a key platform for fostering innovation and self-reliance in strategic technologies. He further noted that Pakistan and Sri Lanka face several common security challenges and identified military training, research and development, and knowledge exchange as promising avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd) also commended Sri Lanka’s high literacy rate and acknowledged the resilience demonstrated by the Sri Lankan people in overcoming the challenge of terrorism. He expressed confidence that closer collaboration between the two countries would contribute to regional stability, mutual learning and stronger defence ties.
