Baku, Mar 30: Air China, the country’s national carrier, on Monday resumed direct flights to North Korea after a six-year hiatus, following the earlier resumption of train services between Beijing and Pyongyang, Chinese media reported.
An Air China passenger plane from Beijing arrived in Pyongyang Monday morning, marking the formal restart of passenger flight operations between the two capitals, Xinhua reported.
Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Wang Yajun, along with other diplomats, greeted arriving passengers at Sunan International Airport in Pyongyang.
Travel between the two neighbors has been heavily restricted since 2020, when strict border closures were imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Daily passenger train services between the two countries resumed this month.
North Korea had already resumed direct flights and train services with Russia last year, and state carrier Air Koryo restarted flights between Beijing and Pyongyang in 2023.
