Rawalpindi: A Rawalpindi court has sent a Chinese national to jail on judicial remand over allegations of human trafficking involving young Pakistani women under the pretext of marriage and employment.

Senior Civil Judge Waqar Hussain Gondal in Rawalpindi presided over the hearing and ordered the detention of Chinese citizen MA Shagai. He was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration authorities.

The court also directed law enforcement to apprehend other suspects named in the case, allegedly linked to a broader trafficking network.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by a Pakistani woman, she was promised marriage and a job opportunity by the accused.

The complaint further stated that a deal worth Rs1 million ($3,500) was struck with her family, and Rs150,000 ($520) had already been paid when authorities intervened.

Pakistan has witnessed several human trafficking cases in recent years, where young women have reportedly been lured into fraudulent marriages with Chinese nationals, only to be exploited upon arrival in China.
