Chinese PM assures Pakistani military of support against terrorism

ISLAMABAD, OCT 15 (DNA) : Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang held an important meeting with Pakistan’s top military leadership during his visit to Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

In the high-level meeting, Prime Minister Li met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the service chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen and expand their strategic partnership, which has been a cornerstone of regional stability.

Discussions during the meeting covered various critical issues, including defence cooperation and counter-terrorism efforts. Prime Minister Li praised Pakistan’s military for its pivotal role in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging the sacrifices and achievements of the armed forces in maintaining peace and security in the region.

Prime Minister Li Qiang assured China’s continued support and cooperation in Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism, emphasizing the need for joint collaboration to tackle emerging security challenges.

Earlier on Monday, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang reaffirmed China’s commitment to the development and prosperity of Pakistan, stating that the bond between the two nations is “eternal”.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the New Gwadar International Airport, Li emphasised that the completion of this critical infrastructure project marks a significant milestone under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He underscored the importance of Gwadar airport for enhancing regional connectivity, calling it a “world-class airport” that reflects the strength of the friendship between Pakistan and China.

“The airport’s completion will facilitate increased international trade and accelerate development in Pakistan’s western regions, particularly Gwadar,” he said, commending the efforts of both nations’ workforces.

The inauguration was followed by a signing ceremony where several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Pakistan and China were formalised. These agreements include advancements in smart classrooms, cooperation in water resources, and enhanced collaboration in information and communication technology (ICT).
