CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif Inaugurates Pakistan’s First Green Policing Unit

Lahore, 22 January 2026: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif noted while inauguraing Pakistan’s first green policing unit that Punjab has an honor to introduce electric vehicles for patrolling in the province. She inspected the electric patrol vehicle of the Green Policing Unit by driving it herself. She was briefed in detail by the authorities concerned about the Green Policing Unit and the electric vehicle. They said that Lahore will have its first state-of-the-art BYD electric traffic patrolling. They added that the eco-friendly electric vehicle
has a range of 410 KMs per charge, and takes about 30 minutes for 30 to 80% charge. They highlighted that an electric vehicle is equipped with a modern surveillance system, police lights, 360-degree camera and speed detection equipment.

Chief Minister Punjab was apprised by the relevant authorities that 103 patrolling vehicles consume 28,000 liters of fuel per month, costing the Government some Rs 7.42 million. They said that electric vehicles will save about 4,500 liters of fuel per vehicle annually, reduce operational costs and achieve zero carbon emissions. She directed the authorities responsible to gradually increase number of electric vehicles for the Green Policing Unit. She also directed them to start Green Policing Unit in other districts of the province in a phased manner.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that the use of electric vehicles will lead to reduction in fuel costs and zero carbon emissions. She added that Green Policing is a reflection of the vision of clean air and good governance.
