ISLAMABAD, AUG 12: /DNA/ – Former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Dr. Shahid Rasheed Butt, said on Monday that continued exports of sugar have increased its price across the country.
He stated that the Cabinet should ban sugar exports because they will cause a national crisis.
Shahid Rasheed Butt said in a statement issued here today that since the government allowed the export of sugar, the price of sugar has been continuously increasing across the country.
He stated that the government had decided to halt sugar exports if the country’s sugar price rose, but this has not happened, and the market price of sugar has already risen by five rupees per kg.
Shahid Rashid Butt said that the sugar mills had assured the government that there is a large quantity of surplus sugar in the country, and that exports will not increase prices in the local market.
He stated that if the government grants the sugar mills permission to export 15 lakh tonnes of sugar, it will lead to a serious sugar crisis in the country.
He said that the wrong decisions are continuously harming the economy. Every sector of the economy is in decline, and people are suffering because of inflation and inflated power bills.
Shahid Rashid Butt said that not only India, the Philippines, Egypt, and Bangladesh are better than Pakistan in terms of exports, but recently bankrupt Sri Lanka has also far surpassed Pakistan.
