Court issues Moonis Elahi’s non-bailable arrest warrants in corruption case

LAHORE, SEP 26 (DNA) — An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former federal minister Moonis Elahi in connection with investigation into alleged corruption in development projects.

The court issued the non-bailable arrest warrants of Moonis, son of PTI President and former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Moonis Elahi is facing allegations of billions of rupees corruption in development projects.

Accountability Court Judge Naseem Ahmad Virk conducted the hearing and issued the arrest warrants which are valid until October 5. The NAB chairman had already issued the arrest warrants for Moonis Elahi on August 11 but the former minister had gone underground and avoiding arrest.

Moonis is currently living in Spain. The FIA had pleaded to declare Elahi an absconder for not appearing before the investigation agency even after issuance of non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

The court also started the process to freeze his assets, computerized national identity card, passport, and bank accounts. Last month, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) lodged a case against Parvez Elahi and his son Moonis over alleged money laundering in the Panama scandal. — DNA
