RAWALPINDI, JUN 21 (APP/DNA): Parents across Pakistan have been urged to ensure their children receive polio drops in every campaign until the country is declared as polio-free. The appeal was made by renowned Test cricketer Sajid Khan and District Health Officer, Dr. Ehsan Ghani during a public awareness event held here on Saturday.
They warned that polio is a dangerous disease that can permanently paralyze children, with no cure, only vaccination offers protection.
“I urge parents to administer polio vaccines every time. I will continue meeting my Pakistani brothers to remind them of their responsibility. My support will persist until polio is completely eradicated from Pakistan”, he said .
Appreciating Polio workers for their hard work during the immunization drives, Sajid urged that citizens must cooperate with the polio field teams who come to their doorstep only to protect children from disability.
“If even one child misses the drops, it poses a risk to others. Parents must understand that vaccination is the only way to prevent polio”, DHO Dr. Sajjad Ghani said while interacting with the citizens.
Dr. Sajjad highlighted that Pakistan remains one of the few countries where the polio virus still exists. Environmental samples and new cases in some areas indicate the ongoing threat.
He reiterated that the government and its partners are committed to eradicating polio, and the support of national heroes like Sajid Khan is vital in building public trust and awareness.
During the campaign, people were awared that polio is a highly contagious virus that primarily affects children under five. It attacks the nervous system, causing permanent disability within hours and, in some cases, results fatal. There is no cure for polio, repeated vaccination is the only means of prevention.
Sajid Khan repeated that polio drops are safe, effective, and essential, requiring administration in every campaign for complete protection.
