Dar says Pakistan deeply values Poland relations; hopes ties to grow stronger

ISLAMABAD, Oct 23 (DNA):Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday said that Pakistan deeply valued its “historically warm and friendly” ties with Poland, expressing the hope that the bilateral relations would continue to grow on an upward trajectory in the future.

The deputy prime minister, in his opening remarks at the delegation-level talks with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski, said that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Poland had been based on mutual respect, goodwill, and amity since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962.

At the invitation of DPM Ishaq Dar, this is Minister Sikorski’s second official visit to Pakistan as his previous visit took place in 2011.

Welcoming the guest, who was also representing EU Vice President Kaja Kallas, DPM Dar said that he looked forward to his further visits to Pakistan with reduced gaps.

Referring to the “unique historic” connections between the two countries, Ishaq Dar recalled that during World War II, the Polish refugees had taken shelter in Karachi and Quetta cities of today’s Pakistan.

The Polish air force veterans also played an invaluable role in laying the foundation of Pakistan Air Force for which the country continued to remember them as “national heroes,” he added.

The deputy prime minister said that Pakistan took inspiration from Poland’s long struggle for freedom and sovereignty and that modern-day Europe owed a lot to the founder of the Second Polish Republic.

Poland’s transition from 1991 to now, becoming a trillion-dollar economy, was truly impressive, Dar said and congratulated on the successful and smooth presidential elections held recently.

In his remarks, Radoslaw Sikorski said that visiting Pakistan was sentimental as well as official.

He said that relations between Pakistan and Poland were good, as both countries.
