DCs told to ensure transparent use of sugar cane (development) Cess fund

LAHORE, NOV 30  (DNA) – A six-member delegation of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad led by Central President Khalid Mehmood Khokhar called on Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal and briefed him about the problems of farmers, at the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed in detail the support price of wheat and sugarcane, Sugar Cane (Development) Cess Fund, and measures for the betterment of agriculture. Talking to the delegation, the Chief Secretary said that the government is taking steps for the progress of the agriculture sector and would continue to safeguard the rights of farmers.

He said that it is the responsibility of the district administration to achieve the real objectives of the Sugar Cane (Development) Cess Fund and ensure transparent utilization of funds for the repair and construction of roads. He issued directions to all deputy commissioners to hold regular meetings of the committees set up for the Sugar Cane (Development) Cess Fund.

The delegation welcomed the efforts of the government for resolving the problems of the farmers. Khalid Mahmood Khokhar said that the Prime Minister is personally interested in improving the agriculture sector in the country.

He said that due to the effective steps by the government the price of fertilizer has come down significantly and the efforts of the Punjab government in this regard are praiseworthy. He said that the government should ensure ample availability of urea fertilizer to the farmers at the rate of Rs. 1768 per bag.

The delegates included Rabia Sultan, Javed Abdullah, Hassan Akram, Bilal Israel Khan, and Saeed Jaffar Dogar while the Secretary Food, Cane Commissioner Punjab, Director-General Agriculture (Extension) were also present on the occasion. = DNA
