SIALKOT, Dec 14 (APP/DNA): Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the MEG Industrial Estate is an important landmark project and a commendable initiative by the private sector. He added that such projects should be replicated in other cities to promote industrial growth and economic development.
He expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the MEG Industrial Estate at Pasrur Road, Sialkot.
Minister of State for Development, Planning and Special Initiatives Chaudhry Armaghan Subhani, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Overseas Pakistanis Hafiz Shahid Ghug, Punjab Provincial Minister for Labour Muhammad Manshaullah Butt, Chairman Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA) Chaudhry Tariq Subhani, MPA Chaudhry Faisal Akram, prominent business leader Riaz-ud-Din Sheikh (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mega Industrial Estate Abdul Ghafoor Malik, Chairman AirSial Fazal Jilani, CEO AirSial Ameen Ahsan, Chairman Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) Hassan Ali Bhatti, Senior Vice President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Muhammad Murad Arshad, Vice President SCCI Salman Sheikh, former presidents, senior vice presidents and vice presidents of SCCI and SIAL, chairmen of various associations, and other prominent businessmen were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the problems faced by industrialists were being resolved on a priority basis and that exporters were playing a vital role in strengthening the national economy.
He said that under the guidance of Mian Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government had assured the timely completion of all pending projects, including the Sialkot Ring Road.
The federal minister further stated that in the coming days, Eminabad Road would emerge as a major hub of commercial and urban activities, significantly improving local businesses and civic facilities.
He added that in the first phase, Pasrur Road, Eminabad Road, Daska Road, and Sambrial Road would be connected to the Ring Road, as these roads currently bear heavy traffic pressure. Addressing this issue would help improve traffic flow.
The minister also announced that several government offices currently located within Sialkot city, including the jail, courts, police lines, and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, would soon be shifted to Eminabad Road.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the government was always available to support the welfare and growth of the business community. He emphasized that all elected representatives of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) remained accessible to businessmen and were committed to resolving their issues.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer Mega Industrial Estate and former SCCI President Abdul Ghafoor Malik welcomed the chief guests, including Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif and business leader Riaz-ud-Din Sheikh (Sitara-e-Imtiaz).
On the occasion, Abdul Ghafoor Malik gave a detailed briefing about the project. He said that the MEG Industrial Estate was a unique project in Sialkot and would prove to be a milestone in promoting industry and the business community.
He stated that the project would be a game changer, ensuring the provision of basic facilities and the efficient utilization of resources. He added that the industrial estate would benefit Sialkot, surrounding areas, and the national as well as international business community.
He further said that the MEG Industrial Estate would offer modern facilities including water supply, sewerage, carpeted roads, mosque, parks, a water filtration plant, an overhead water tank with a capacity of 100,000 gallons, 24/7 gated security, a weighing station, and other amenities to be added in the future.
The Sialkot business community highly appreciated the project, stating that it would significantly boost economic activity in the region.
