Directorate General of Special Education, Ministry of Human Rights Announces the White Cane Safety Day Walk

[Islamabad, October 12, 2023] — The Directorate General of Special Education, Ministry of Human Rights is proud to announce a special event in honor of White Cane Safety Day. On the 13th of October 2023, this event will bring together individuals from all walks of life to raise awareness and celebrate the capabilities of those with visual impairments.

White Cane Safety Day, observed internationally, is a day dedicated to recognizing the importance of the white cane, a symbol of independence and mobility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It is a day to promote understanding and ensure that people with visual disabilities can participate fully in society.

The event will commence with a Walk, starting at China Chowk and culminating at D-Chowk, Islamabad. The walk will be led by the esteemed Chief Guest, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights, Mr. Khalil George. Mr. George’s presence underscores the Ministry’s commitment to the well-being and inclusion of individuals with disabilities.

Participants and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with individuals who are visually impaired and gain insights into their daily lives, challenges, and triumphs. The walk is intended to foster an environment of understanding and support for the visually impaired community.
