RAWALPINDI: A motorcyclist was seen clinging to the bonnet of a moving car after his motorcycle was dragged along the road during a reckless driving incident in Rawalpindi.
The motorcyclist remained on the front of the vehicle as the car continued moving, while his motorcycle appeared to be trapped near the car’s front wheel and was dragged along the road.
In the video which went viral on social media, sparks were seen coming from the motorcycle as it struck the road surface, while the rider held on to the car’s bonnet and front windscreen.
Traffic police later said the incident had taken place on Friday night within the jurisdiction of New Town police station after two vehicles were involved in an accident on Murree Road.
The collision was followed by a heated exchange between the two parties, according to traffic police.
Police said the man seen on the bonnet was the owner of the other vehicle involved in the accident, which was not visible in the footage.
His vehicle had been hit and damaged by the car seen in the video, after which he climbed onto its bonnet to stop the driver and seek compensation for the damage, police said.
As the car continued moving, a parked motorcycle came in its path and became trapped underneath the vehicle, according to traffic police.
The car then dragged the motorcycle along the road while the man remained on its bonnet.
Following the incident, police took the owners of both vehicles to the police station, where the two parties reached a settlement, traffic police said.
However, after the video emerged, police began registering a case on their own complaint and said legal action would be taken over violations of the law.
Meanwhile, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam directed the circle in-charge of Murree Road to register a case against those involved.
“Strict action will be taken against those who put the lives of others at risk,” Aslam said.
