Under-18 applicants can obtain driving permits with parental consent; strict vehicle limits apply
LAHORE, FEB 25: The Lahore Traffic Police will begin issuing driving permits to individuals under the age of 18 starting March 1, officials announced. Sixteen-year-old youths will now be eligible to apply for a driving permit, subject to specific conditions.
Authorities have clarified that individuals under 16 years of age will not be eligible for a driving permit.
According to DIG (Traffic) Waqas Nazir, applicants must present a NADRA smart card or Form B to obtain a driving permit.
Parental consent will also be mandatory for candidates applying under the new policy. Officials emphasized that strict verification procedures will be followed before issuing permits.
Persons below the age of 16 will not qualify under any circumstances.
Which vehicles can be driven?
The Traffic Police have clearly outlined restrictions on the types of vehicles allowed under a driving permit. Motorcycles, cars, and commercial vehicles larger than 125cc will not be permitted to be driven on a driving permit, DIG Waqas Nazir stated.
This means that underage permit holders will face limitations on vehicle categories, ensuring controlled and supervised driving experience.
Officials say the initiative is designed to regulate youth driving and ensure that young motorists operate vehicles within defined safety parameters.
With the implementation beginning March 1, traffic authorities are urging eligible applicants and parents to complete documentation requirements in advance.
