ISLAMABAD, AUG 18 (DNA): The captain of the Pakistan national hockey team, Ammad Shakeel Butt, called on Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi to congratulate him on being awarded the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz. During the meeting, Ammad Butt also highlighted key issues facing the national hockey team, particularly concerning Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming Pro Hockey League and the broader revival of the sport in the country.
Ammad Butt briefed Minister Naqvi on the challenges faced by players, including welfare, rehabilitation, medical support, and international travel concerns. In response, Mohsin Naqvi announced a generous reward of PKR 1 million (Rs. 10 lakh) for each member of the national hockey team, recognizing their dedication and performance.
Taking immediate steps towards addressing the concerns, Minister Naqvi announced that the Pakistan Cricket Board’s professional medical team will now be tasked with managing the fitness and rehabilitation of national hockey players. He also assured that logistical and visa-related hurdles faced by the team for international tournaments will be resolved on a priority basis, with full support from the government’s logistics team.
Minister Naqvi expressed firm commitment to the complete revival of hockey in Pakistan. He emphasized that hockey, once the pride of the nation, deserves every possible support to reclaim its glory. “Qualifying for the Pro Hockey League is a matter of great pride for Pakistan, and we will ensure our team competes with full support and preparation,” he stated.
