ISLAMABAD, JAN 1 /DNA/ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar (@MIshaqDar50) chaired a meeting to review a proposal for blending ethanol with locally produced petrol by refineries.
The Chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) presented the proposal, outlining potential benefits and challenges. After detailed deliberations, the committee recommended that ethanol blending should remain voluntary, given that current ethanol prices are higher than petrol prices. The policy would therefore be subject to financial viability for both refineries and ethanol manufacturers.
To ensure transparency and economic feasibility, OGRA was directed to conduct quarterly reviews comparing the financial outcomes of ethanol exports versus local blending. These findings will be submitted through the Petroleum Division for consideration by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mr. Tariq Bajwa, the Secretaries of Petroleum and Industries & Production, the Chairman of OGRA, and representatives from the Pakistan Ethanol Manufacturers Association and the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association.
