TORONTO, JUN 19: The second round of matches in Group B at the FIFA World Cup 2026 were completed on Thursday with Switzerland and Canada posting comfortable wins.
Switzerland put four goals past Bosnia and Herzegovina, conceding one, in a 20-minute spell at the end after a cagey first 70-odd minutes of play. Canada took full toll of a two-man advantage against Qatar to seal a 6-0 win.
Group B
Position Team Played Wins Draws Losses GD Points
- Canada 2 1 1 0 +6 4
- Switzerland 2 1 1 0 +3 4
- Bosnia and Herzegovina 2 0 1 1 -3 1
- Qatar 2 0 1 1 -6 1
Qualification scenario:
Both Switzerland and Canada now have four points at the end of two games and look to be in prime position to qualify out of the group. The two sides will play each other on June 24 at Vancouver to decide who tops the group. A draw between the two will send them both through to the Round of 32.
The loser of the encounter will finish on four points and could end up level on with the third place team if there is a winner in the contest between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. The first tie-break will be the head-to-head record followed by goal difference.
The eight best third-placed teams also qualify for the Round of 32, therefore there will be lot riding on the contest between Bosnia and Qatar which will be played simultaneously with the other encounter on June 25. There is a higher chance that the third placed team from this group qualifies if it finishes on four points.
If the game between Bosnia and Qatar ends in draw, the former will have to hope it doesn’t finish among the four worst third-placed teams.
