First Regional Event of Women Empowerment Mentoring Programme by NAHE held at LCWU

Islamabad/Lahore, Feb 25: /DNA/ – National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), HEC conducted its first Regional Event of Women Empowerment Mentoring Programme (WEMP) at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) combining participants from four Universities of Lahore including Kinnaird College for Women University, University of Home Economics Lahore, and Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

The event took place at Iqra Auditorium, LCWU, bringing together distinguished academicians, mentors, mentees, and participants from WEMP partner Universities in Lahore. It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, Vice Chancellor University of Home Economics Lahore was also present along with her WEMP team at the event. Similarly, a large gathering of mentors and mentees from FJMU also represented the University at the occasion, besides Kinnaird and University of Home Economics.

Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor, LCWU who is also a member of the WEMP National Steering Committee delivered a welcome address emphasizing the importance of mentorship and leadership development in empowering women in academia and beyond. In a short span, Dr. Uzma managed to conduct three workshops on WEMP modules.

Mr. Muhammad Muneeb-Ur-Rehman, Assistant Director NAHE, provided an insightful and comprehensive programme orientation, outlining the objectives and future scope of WEMP. He also briefed the audience about the achievements of the programme to-date. Focal Person of WEMP, LCWU Dr. Tahira Kalsoom presented a comprehensive report on WEMP activities at LCWU, highlighting the University’s initiatives in fostering women’s professional growth.

The highlight of the event was a compelling talk by Dr. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director NAHE, on the significance of the Women Empowerment and Mentoring Programme in shaping future leaders. Her address emphasized the role of mentorship in breaking barriers. She also emphasized the importance of self analysis and development for professional effectiveness for women in the higher education sector.

An interactive Q&A session engaged participants in meaningful discussions, allowing them to share experiences and perspectives on women’s leadership and professional growth.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid, Chairperson WEMP Committee, expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests, speakers, and participants for their valuable contributions.

This regional event served as a significant step towards fostering women’s empowerment and mentorship in higher education and reaffirmed NAHE’s commitment to supporting women in academia and leadership roles. Similar regional events will also be held in collaboration with other participating universities of the programme.
