The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, in his call to hold a session of the Security Council in order to assume its responsibilities for an immediate ceasefire against the backdrop of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, based on Article 99 of the United Nations Charter, and considers it a very necessary step that is consistent with the missions. entrusted to the Council and international legitimacy institutions, and is consistent with widespread international warnings about the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe that befell Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip as a result of the genocidal war waged by Israel.
On the other hand, the Ministry strongly condemns the attack and incitement carried out by the occupying state and its officials against the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and considers it political terrorism to discourage the Secretary-General of the United Nations from performing his role and carrying out his duties in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, international law and human rights principles.
The Ministry calls on world leaders and countries to support Mr. Guterres’ initiative and to rally around it to push the Security Council to fulfill its obligations and decide on a ceasefire.
