ISLAMABAD: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, while speaking to the media at an exhibition hockey match organized to pay tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces, praised the national hockey team’s preparations for the upcoming Nations Cup and expressed hope for the revival of sports across the province.

“I appreciate the efforts of PHF President Tariq Bugti for revitalizing hockey in the country,” the governor stated, adding that both federal and provincial governments must provide full support to the national sport.

He reiterated the commitment to revive sports infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, asserting, “The grounds in KP will once again echo with the energy of youth and sports.”

The governor took a strong stance on recent national issues, saying that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was deliberately targeted and attempts were made to sabotage it. “Despite provocations, the world witnessed Pakistan’s firm response to Indian aggression,” he said.

Highlighting the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir, Governor Kundi said, “The COAS responded to hostile attacks, truly representing the spirit of the nation. The entire Pakistani nation stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its armed forces.”

Touching on foreign policy, he mentioned that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government’s diplomatic efforts and visits to various countries were strengthening Pakistan’s international relations.

He also commented on India’s defense posture, saying, “India was overconfident in its Rafale jets and defense capabilities. Pakistan’s decisive response will remain etched in their memory.”

Referring to alleged corruption in solar panel installations at mosques, he said, “Peaceful protests were held against corruption. Ironically, those who once claimed to stand against corruption are now responsible for suppressing dissent.”

He condemned the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s violent crackdown on peaceful protestors, stating that the federal interior ministry would register FIRs against those responsible.

The governor also criticized the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), noting, “From day one, PTI’s founder has sought an NRO. Even today, no one in PTI knows who is really in charge.”

“Interestingly, PTI was the only political party absent from the ceremony honoring Field Marshal Asim Munir,” he added.

Praising the military and national heroes, he said, “We salute those who have defended our borders and our nation.”

Concluding his remarks, Governor Kundi emphasized the importance of competence in sports administration, saying, “People with no knowledge of sports should not be given key posts in sports federations. We must work together to revive and enrich Pakistan’s sports culture.”
