Govt Committed to Supporting Gems and Jewelry Sector: Jam Kamal Khan

ISLAMABAD: AUG 7 (DNA):In a proactive move to boost non-traditional exports, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan assured full support to the gems and jewelry sector during a meeting with the All Pakistan Small Gems Jewellers and Training Association (APSGTA).

Led by Secretary General Qari Muhammad Ashraf, the delegation called for the revival of S.R.O 760 and requested exclusion from S.R.O 924, highlighting their sector’s strong compliance record over the past four years.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to export-led economic growth, recognizing the gems and jewelry sector as a key player in Pakistan’s diversification strategy.

He emphasized the need for balanced reforms, ease of doing business, and greater access for small exporters and artisans.

He appreciated APSGTA’s constructive engagement and announced that the Ministry will forward its recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Office for necessary directives and policy facilitation.

In a significant step to boost the sector’s global presence, the Minister also directed officials to ensure participation of the gems and jewelry sector in upcoming international business forums in France, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia.

He further stressed the importance of public-private collaboration, skills training, and market linkage initiatives, particularly to uplift artisans and women entrepreneurs in underserved regions.

The Minister pledged full government support to introduce strategic measures aimed at unlocking the untapped potential of the gem and jewelry sector, highlighting its significance in exports diversification and generating employment.
