ISLAMABAD, NOV 04 (DNA) – The government has started the process to remove the banned organization’s tag from the yet-proscribed religious party, Tehreek-e-Labbaik as the Punjab Home Department has forwarded a summary to lift the ban on the outfit.
Sources said that after the approval of the summary, the request to lift the ban on the TLP would be sent to the Centre. Sources further divulged that the federal cabinet would give approval to lift the embargo on the religious party later tonight. The cabinet wing has sent the summary for cabinet approval through a circulation.
Separately, the Lahore High Court has disposed of a petition against the detention of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Chief Saad Rizvi on the basis of taking the petition back. However, the court has allowed petitioner Amir Hussain that he could again submit a petition if a situation arises in future.
A two-judge bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Amir Bhatti heard a petition of Mr Hussain in Lahore on Thursday. Burhan Muazzam Malik Advocate appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner and Additional Advocate General Malik Akhtar Javed represented the Punjab government.
The chief justice asked Mr Malik what would he say about the continuation of the case proceeding. On this, the petitioner’s lawyer said as a matter of fact, the petition had become ineffective. The court then disposed of the case on the ground of taking the case back by the petitioner.
Earlier, in compliance with the federal government’s agreement with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the Punjab Home Department on Thursday approved to exclude names of 90 workers of the banned religious party from the Fourth Schedule
A meeting was held at the office of the Punjab Home Department in Lahore on Thursday to deliberate on the decisions taken by the Steering Committee which was formed to sort out affairs between the government and e outlawed religious outfit.
The meeting which was presided over by Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat was also attended by Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Zafar Nasrullah, Punjab IG Police Rao Sardar and other officials.
The meeting also made important decisions regarding monitoring of people named in the Fourth Schedule and it also gave approval for the removal of names of the proscribed TLP workers from the Fourth Schedule.
Sources divulged that the meeting also gave approval for the release of another 100 workers of the banned TLP. They also informed that the meeting consented to remove their names from four FIRs filed under Section 7 of the ATA. = DNA
