India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down from captaincy across all formats, announcing the decision on social media.
Indian media reports said the announcement came after a review meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Guwahati.
Harmanpreet said leaving the captaincy was not an easy decision, given the memories and emotions associated with leading the team over several years.
Reports suggested that Smriti Mandhana could be considered as her successor as India’s women’s captain.
Harmanpreet, however, will continue to represent India as a player after relinquishing the leadership role.
