LAHORE, Apr 27: An important plan has been prepared to restore the historic buildings located on Lahore’s Mall Road to their original condition, aiming to preserve the city’s architectural heritage.
According to official sources, under this initiative, the repair and restoration work will be carried out at the expense of the respective property owners.
Authorities have identified a total of 104 buildings from PMG Chowk to Charing Cross for restoration, keeping in view their historical significance. In the first phase, notices have been issued to owners of 10 deteriorated buildings, along with photographs highlighting their current condition.
The owners have been directed to initiate restoration work within seven days, failing which legal action will be taken against them.
Under the project, the British-era structures will be restored to their original historical appearance, while efforts will be made to ensure uniform and aesthetically improved façades.
The Walled City of Lahore Authority will provide technical support to the district administration for the execution of the project.
Prominent buildings identified for restoration include Ghulam Rasool Building, Kesho Ram Building, Shah Din Manzil, Ahmed Mansion, Zaman Plaza, Khadim Center, Ziauddin Building, Kirpa Ram Building, Dhoni Mansion and Jan Building.
Authorities said the initiative aims to preserve Lahore’s historic heritage and further enhance the visual appeal of Mall Road.
