ICCI demands ease of doing business for the retail sector

ISLAMABAD, FEB 28 (DNA) – Saqib Raza Aslam, Commissioner Malakand lauded the D. Watson Group for opening its new superstore in Swat and hoped that it would provide a good shopping experience to the consumers, create jobs in the area, and make a useful contribution to the local economy. He said this while addressing as Chief Guest the grand opening ceremony of D. Watson Superstore in Swat.

Commissioner Malakand said that Swat is a very friendly trading center and the people of the area warmly welcome the tourists. He said that the opening of D.Watson Super Store will not only be beneficial to the consumers of the area, but it would also provide a good shopping experience to the tourists. He said that the Malakand administration has always supported investors and it would also fully cooperate with D.Watson Group in promoting business activities in the area.

Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) said that the retail sector is the third largest sector of the economy after agriculture and manufacturing, contributing 20 percent to the GDP and the second highest employer of the labor force, but is facing many challenges. He stressed that the government should promote ease of doing business for the retail sector to facilitate its better growth and revive the economy. He said that infrastructure limitations, regulatory issues, economic fluctuations, and unstable environment were the major challenges for the retail sector and emphasized that the incoming government should address these challenges on a priority basis to create a conducive environment for the retail sector.

Zafar Bakhtawari, former President ICCI and Chairman, D.Watson Group said that D. Watson is already running its chain of stores in Islamabad and Punjab and the opening of its superstore in Swat is another great step towards its journey of growth and expansion. He said that D. Watson is providing quality products to its customers and hoped that its opening in Swat would start a new trend of quality shopping experience for the consumers of the area.

Waqar Bakhtawari, President, Chakwal Chamber of Commerce and host of D.Watson Superstore Swat said that providing great shopping experiences to customers is a priority of his business and added that the opening of D.Watson branch in Swat would prove to be a great gift to the people of the area.

Abdul Rahim, President, Swat Traders Federation said that the opening of D.Watson Superstore in Swat is a positive development and assured that the traders of Swat would fully cooperate with its management.
