ISLAMABAD, MAR 13 /DNA/ – President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sardar Tahir Mehmood has said that promoting digital skills among the youth is essential for preparing them to benefit from emerging opportunities in the global digital economy.
Talking to a group of University students here at the Chamber House on Friday, he stated that Pakistan has a large youth population which can become a valuable asset for the country if provided with proper training in modern digital technologies, including information technology, e-commerce, digital marketing, software development, and freelancing. Equipping young people with such skills will not only enhance their employability but also enable them to contribute effectively to economic development.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood said that the rapid growth of the digital economy has opened new avenues for entrepreneurship and employment. However, without adequate digital training and skill development programs, a significant portion of the youth may not be able to fully utilize these opportunities.
He emphasized the need for closer collaboration between educational institutions, technology companies, and the private sector to design market-oriented training programs that match the evolving needs of industry. Such initiatives would help bridge the gap between academic education and practical skills required in today’s competitive job market.
The ICCI President also highlighted that strengthening digital skills among youth can boost Pakistan’s IT exports, encourage innovation, and support the growth of startups and technology-driven businesses.
He urged the government to introduce more initiatives and incentives aimed at promoting digital education, establishing training centers, and facilitating youth participation in the digital economy.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood added that the business community stands ready to support programs that empower young people with modern skills, enabling them to play a meaningful role in shaping Pakistan’s economic future.
