ICCI President inaugurates Tape Ball Cricket Tournament: terms sports vital for personal growth, national progress

ISLAMABAD, NOV 6 (DNA) : President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, formally inaugurated the Tape Ball Cricket Tournament here on Thursday at the F-9 Park Cricket Ground. The event, being jointly organized by the ICCI and the Islamabad Estate Agents Association (IEAA), will be played under the knockout format from 6th to 9th November, featuring the participation of 24 enthusiastic teams.

Speaking at the opening ceremony as Chief Guest, the President ICCI highlighted the indispensable role of sports in fostering mental and physical well-being, promoting teamwork, discipline, and resilience, the qualities equally vital in personal development and national progress. He said that sports are not just recreational activities, but effective tools for uniting communities, empowering youth, and shaping a healthier, more dynamic society.

He stated, “A nation that actively engages in sports is not only strong in spirit but also well-positioned for growth. Sports invigorate energy, build character, and cultivate the sense of unity that every nation needs to progress.”

Emphasizing ICCI’s broader mission, Sardar Tahir Mehmood reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to fully support initiatives that bolster both physical well-being and industrial growth. He underlined that a vibrant sports culture goes hand in hand with a prosperous business climate as both rely on motivation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

“ICCI is actively working to create an environment where business flourishes alongside human development. Supporting sports is part of our broader goal to boost national confidence, attract global engagement, and strengthen social harmony through inclusive, healthy activities,” he added.
