ISLAMABAD, SEP 20 (DNA) : Indian Lt Gen S Mohan, currently serving in South Sudan, has recognized the professionalism and dedication of Pakistan’s security forces in a letter addressed to Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir, in a rare gesture of appreciation.
The letter highlights the commendable efforts of Pakistani Blue Helmets (peacekeepers) stationed in the region, and their professionalism, dedication and unwavering determination.
“The professionalism of Pakistan Peacekeeping Contingent has been acknowledged by the Force Commander United Mission in South Sudan, Lieutenant General S Mohan from India,” an Inter-Services Public Relations news release said.
The ISPR said that in the line with mandate assigned by the United Nations Security Council, “the Pakistani Peacekeepers are performing their duties for maintenance of peace and security in South Sudan”.
Lt Gen S Mohan specifically praised the role of Brigadier Shafaqat Iqbal and Lieutenant Colonel Shahbaz Aslam, who worked with their troops through complex and challenging operational environments in South Sudan.
According to the Indian general, Pakistani peacekeepers have worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure the safety and well-being of South Sudanese citizens, particularly in flood-affected areas where they protected over 250,000 internally displaced people.
The letter from the Indian commander underscores the significant contribution of Pakistani troops to international peace efforts. It serves as an acknowledgment of the high standards of professionalism and dedication that the Pakistani Army maintains in its peacekeeping missions around the world.
Pakistan, the ISPR statement added, “remains committed to play a pivotal role as a responsible member of the international community to help realize the ideals of global peace and security through active support in UN Peacekeeping Missions”.
