Indonesia keen to expand academic links with Pakistan: Amb. Adam

PESHAWAR: The Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Idrees welcomed the Indonesian ambassador Adam Mulawarman Tugio. University’s’ Dean Prof Dr Zahid Anwar , Chairman Department of International Relations Dr. Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, Registrar Saifullah Khan, Directors and senior administrative staff members were also present on the occasion.

National Anthem of both countries Pakistan and Indonesia were played at start of the program.

During his address to the students and staff at Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Auditorium the Indonesian ambassador said that Indonesian embassy is looking ahead to accommodate students of University of Peshawar in upcoming higher education scholarships phase.

The ambassador said that his government is looking to facilitate students to students exchange programs, and University of Peshawar is one-stop to facilitate bilateral students to students and Faculty to faculty exchange program in both the countries.

The ambassador said that Indonesia takes pride of its world class tourist destination. It receives millions of foreign tourists from all corners of the world annually.

However, it is also true that in the absence of the insufficient marketing and promotion the outbound tourists in Pakistan are unaware of the huge and diverse tourism opportunities in Indonesia. Students can play a vital role to design a 3D model of all tourists places for better promotion.

Similarly, Pakistan also offers many great opportunities to the international tourists such as ecotourism and adventure tourism in its northern areas and the archeological and heritage tourism in the world famous cities of Taxila, Lahore and Mohenjodaro etc.

The Ambassador also mentioned the similarities in Pakistan and Indonesia regarding culture, tradition, food and art etc. As he also presented his book to the Vice Chancellor written on the said similarities.

The Vice chancellor, University of Peshawar in his welcome and concluding remarks paid gratitude to visiting Indonesian ambassador for his commitment to promote and place University of Peshawar among the prominent universities of Pakistan.

Vice Chancellor said that Indonesia-Pakistan bilateral relations have seen significant development as the two countries continuously endeavor to expand their all-round cooperation including in the areas of trade & economy, academic linkages and tourism, but now we will make the educational exchange program stronger.

Dr. Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi in his address said that Indeed, this visit of H.E the ambassador Adam Mulawarman Tugio provides us a timely platform as students from different departments are here and where we can discuss, exchange views and learn from one another experiences and suggestions to have better understanding of the issues and plan better next time when organizing promotional programs and events. Dr Shaheed also sad that Pakistan and Indonesia has strong ties as former president of Indonesia Sukarno when visited Pakistan in 1963. And also there is square of his name in Peshawar “The Sukarno Square”.
