ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has welcomed the verdict of the Anti-Terrorism Court in cases pertaining to May 9 riots.

Talking to the media in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the verdict represents a triumph for the rule of law and the enforcement of legal provisions. He emphasized that the sentences were delivered in accordance with the law and through a fair trial.

The Minister further said that irrefutable evidence was available regarding the attacks on May 9. On that day, attackers and rioters inflicted damage on military installations, memorials of martyrs, and government property. He added that officers of the law enforcement agencies were injured, property was vandalized, and acts of arson were committed.

He further noted that the perpetrators showed complete disregard for the martyrs and deliberately attempted to undermine the national system through a planned conspiracy.

Attaullah Tarar also said that the individuals involved in the May 9 events underwent extensive trials and that all evidence was presented before the court. He described May 9 as one of the darkest days in the nation’s history.

He pointed out that acts of vandalism were committed at the offices of defense institutions in Faisalabad and today’s verdict is a moment of justice and a victory for the country’s legal system.

The Minister remarked that those who believed they were above the law and could carry out such attacks without consequences have now been proven wrong. He said that after these sentences, no one will dare strengthen the enemy’s hand.

Attaullah Tarar highlighted that every word and action of the perpetrators was captured on camera. It is now absolutely clear that the mastermind behind the May 9 incidents is behind bars.

He said now no one will ever again dare to attempt such a heinous conspiracy.
