ISLAMABAD, SEPT 17 /DNA/ – A group of Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP) visited the Edhi Home in Islamabad aimed at fostering empathy, social responsibility, and civic engagement among educators. The visit provided a profound, firsthand look at the operations of one of Pakistan’s most esteemed welfare organizations. HEC’s National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) has introduced an actitivy “Community Connect” for all training participants to instill a sense of social responsibility, empathy, and active citizenship among educators by engaging in meaningful community service.
The trainees were guided by the center’s incharge, Mr.Shakeel, who provided a comprehensive tour of the facilities and a detailed briefing on the Edhi Foundation’s extensive humanitarian work. He elaborated on their services, including providing shelter for the homeless and abandoned, care for orphans and the elderly, and their crucial 24/7 emergency ambulance service. Mr.Shakeel shared several inspiring success stories of rehabilitation and family reunification, powerfully illustrating the foundation’s core ethos of serving all humanity without any discrimination.
The visit provided an opportunity for teachers to witness firsthand the humanitarian work carried out by the Edhi Foundation. During the visit, the teachers interacted with residents, learned about the foundation’s operations, and discussed ways to incorporate values of compassion and service into their educational practices. IPFP participants mentioned that the visit was deeply moving and inspiring. It reminded the importance of kindness, humility, and the role educators can play in shaping a more caring society. The IPFP participants distributed gifts among the children and also played different games.
The visit reinforced the role of academic professionals in contributing to societal welfare beyond traditional teaching and research responsibilities. Participants gained insight into how academic expertise can be channelled toward community service and social impact.
