TEHRAN, SEP 20: Iranian forces have warned that any US move to resume military operations against Iran would trigger continued attacks on American bases and interests.
The Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement that Tehran had received information that the United States was preparing to resume combat operations.
“Any US attack will be entailed by continuous strikes on US bases and interests,” it warned.
The warning came after Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said earlier on Sunday that Tehran had conveyed its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz to Washington through mediators.
“Unless these conditions are met, the legitimate rights of the Iranian people are recognized, and American commitments are implemented, there will be no window to return to the conditions of the previous negotiations or to reopen the Strait of Hormuz,” Ghalibaf said, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
“The messages have been conveyed and our terms have been clearly clarified to the counterparty through the mediators,” he added.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei also said earlier that there could be no return to negotiations unless Tehran’s seven conditions were implemented.
Since the US-Israeli war with Iran began on February 28, Iranian threats to commercial vessels have largely disrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy route.
The United States has also imposed new sanctions on Iran and maintained pressure on Iranian ports.
