ISLAMABAD, JUL 16: Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has announced the adoption of the US-style vehicle registration system, issuing a notification to implement the new model. Under this system, registration numbers will now be issued to the vehicle owner instead of the vehicle itself.
According to the notification, each owner will receive a proprietary number plate permanently linked to their name. The policy will apply to both new and existing vehicles. Upon the sale of a vehicle, the previous number will be canceled and a new registration number will be issued to the new owner.
The notification further states that an owner can retain their registration number for up to one year even without owning a vehicle. If the number is not assigned to any vehicle within a year, it will be canceled.
The initiative, outlined in a notification issued by the Director General of Excise and Taxation Islamabad, aims to enhance transparency and convenience in the vehicle registration process.
