Minister Naqvi requests visa exemptions for Pakistani diplomats

ISLAMABAD, FEB 25: Pakistan and Italy have agreed to exempt Pakistani diplomatic passport holders from Italian visa requirements, easing official travel and strengthening bilateral ties.

The decision came after a high-level meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Italian Interior Minister Matteo Pente Duce.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi requested visa exemptions for Pakistani diplomats. Italy agreed, allowing diplomatic passport holders to travel to Italy without prior visas, facilitating smoother official engagements and boosting diplomatic cooperation.

Alongside the diplomatic privileges, Italy confirmed the issuance of work visas for 10,500 skilled Pakistani workers. This move underscores Italy’s commitment to promoting legal migration and providing opportunities for Pakistan’s skilled labor force.

Joint efforts on security
The ministers also reviewed bilateral measures to prevent illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s strict surveillance at airports and sea borders, which has significantly reduced illegal migration. Matteo Pente Duce praised Pakistan’s effective policies in these areas.

Enhancing cooperation
Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration on combating human trafficking, drug trafficking, and terrorism. Italy emphasized readiness to expand cooperation with Pakistan in areas of common interest, reinforcing trust and coordination between the two nations.
