IUB hosts international conference on English Language

BAHAWALPUR, NOV 26 (APP/DNA): A two-day international conference on the compatibility between global English and local culture commenced at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organized by the Department of English Linguistics.

Scholars from Pakistan, Turkey, and Oman are participating both in person and online.

Additional Commissioner Coordination Nayyar Mustafa attended the inaugural session as the guest of honor.

In his message, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran highlighted the undeniable importance of the English language in the modern world.

He noted that discussions by national and international delegates on the cultural relevance and global significance of English, particularly in the era of artificial intelligence, will support teachers and students in developing effective teaching materials and improving classroom practices.

Chairman of the Department, Dr Riaz Hussain, stated that hosting the second international conference reflects the department’s strong academic and research capacity in English linguistics.

He thanked Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran and Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages Prof Dr Syed Amir Sohail for their support and guidance. Keynote speakers included Prof Dr Ali Karakas from Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Turkey; Dr Maria Isabel Maldonado Garcia from the University of Punjab; Dr Shumaila Memon from Sohar University, Oman; Dr Muhammad Ajmal from Sheikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur; Dr Zahoor Hussain from IUB; Dr Muhammad Kamal Khan from Allama Iqbal Open University; and Dr. Saharish Iftikhar from the University of Southern Punjab.

The event was attended by Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Rao Imran Habib, Dean Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies Prof Dr Sheikh Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Chairman Department of International Relations Prof Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Latif, Chairman Department of English Literature Prof Dr Muhammad Asif Khan, Chairman Department of Saraiki Dr. Muhammad Mumtaz Khan, and Director Public Relations Dr Shahzad Ahmed Khalid.
