KARACHI,AUG 21 (DNA): The judicial magistrate has remanded the suspect in the Karachi Karsaz traffic accident case, Natasha, to 14 days in jail on judicial remand.
During the hearing at the Karachi City Court, the judicial magistrate ordered Natasha to remain in custody while the case proceeds. Her lawyer says the legal provisions applied to Natasha’s case are bailable; however, the investigation officer says that Section 322, which has now been added to the case, is non-bailable.
This section pertains to culpable homicide, which escalates the seriousness of the charges. The petitioner’s lawyer demanded to determine what kind of drug the woman was under the influence of that she killed two people.
When asked her husband’s name, Natasha replied it was Danish. On being asked by the court if the police has tortured her, she replied in the negative. The investigating officer was then asked to provide the investigation report at the next hearing.
Culpable homicide charge included
Meanwhile, the investigation has revealed that Natasha did not possess a local driving license at the time of the accident, due to which the police have incorporated the charge of culpable homicide, Section 322, due to Natasha’s alleged over-speeding. Earlier, the case included Section 320 regarding an accidental murder.
Sources said that the police checked the speed of the woman’s car at the time of the accident. CCTV footage from the accident scene shows Natasha’s car travelling at an estimated speed of 100 kilometres per hour on a service road where the typical speed limit is 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The footage also indicates significant over-speeding, contributing to the severity of the charges.
On the other hand, Dr Chunni Lal, head of the psychiatric ward at Jinnah Hospital, reported that Natasha’s mental condition is stable and the chances of suicide are low, contradicting her family’s claims of mental illness. The suspect was then discharged from the hospital.
Despite the family’s assertions, no previous medical records supporting her mental health claims were presented. Dr Chunni Lal noted that Natasha’s condition upon her arrival at the hospital on August 19 appeared poor, but currently, she is deemed fit.
