Kenya has sworn inKithure Kindiki as its third deputy president, succeeding Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached after a fallout with President William Ruto. Kindiki has pledged to do his best in his new role, assuring President William Ruto that he would not let him down.
A three-judge bench lifted conservatory orders that had previously barred Kindiki from assuming office.
The impeachment of Gachagua marked a historic first under the 2010 Constitution, as it was the first time a Deputy President had been removed from office through this process. Both the National Assembly and Senate confirmed his impeachment.
