Kremlin says Middle East is plunging into 'abyss of instability and war'

Kremlin on Friday expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that the region is descending into “an abyss of instability and war.”

Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin remains willing to mediate the crisis if required. Russia has strong diplomatic relations with both Iran and Israel and maintains communication channels with the United States.

Peskov emphasized the urgency of avoiding further escalation, urging all involved parties to seek a diplomatic solution—particularly in regard to the ongoing standoff over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

“The region is plunging into an abyss of instability and war,” Peskov stated, adding that each country in the region should define its own red lines rather than external powers doing so.

Russia has also called on the United States to refrain from launching strikes against Iran and to instead pursue peaceful negotiations.

While Moscow observes that Israel appears intent on continuing military operations, Peskov confirmed that Russia remains in active contact with both Israel and the United States to help de-escalate the situation.
