ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced the schedule for local government (LG) elections in the federal capital, setting February 15, 2026 as the polling day.
According to the notification issued by the ECP, the electoral process will begin with the filing of nomination papers by aspiring candidates, followed by scrutiny, appeals, final lists, and allocation of symbols. The schedule outlines all administrative and procedural steps required to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
The commission stated that preparations are already underway, including updating of voter lists, finalization of polling stations, and training of polling staff. Officials said the elections will be conducted under the updated local government framework for Islamabad.
Political parties have begun initial consultations and are expected to finalize their candidates in the coming weeks. Analysts believe the LG elections will play a key role in shaping local governance, improving civic services, and enhancing community-level representation in the federal capital.
The ECP reaffirmed its commitment to holding free, fair, and transparent elections, adding that all necessary arrangements will be completed well ahead of the polling date.
