ISLAMABAD, JUL 31: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced an increase in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) effective from August 1, as per a notification issued on Monday.
According to the notification, the price of LPG has been raised by Rs 2.27 per kilogram, setting the new rate at Rs 236.99 per kilogram. Consequently, the price of an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder has also been increased by Rs 26.90, bringing the total cost to Rs 2,796.56.
In comparison, the price of an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder in July was Rs 2,769.66. This recent hike reflects the ongoing adjustments in fuel prices that the regulatory body periodically undertakes.
The revised pricing will impact consumers nationwide, particularly affecting households that rely on LPG for cooking and heating purposes. The change is expected to further strain household budgets amid rising inflation and economic challenges.
The increase follows a trend of periodic adjustments in LPG prices by OGRA, aimed at aligning domestic prices with international market rates. However, the frequency and magnitude of these hikes often draw criticism from consumer rights groups and the general public, who cite the growing financial burden on average citizens.
OGRA, in its defense, maintains that the price adjustments are necessary to ensure the stability of the supply chain and to cover the costs associated with import and distribution. The regulatory authority has urged consumers to understand the global dynamics influencing local prices.
