Malaysian Food Festival Opens at Islamabad Serena Hotel

ISLAMABAD: The vibrant flavors and rich culinary heritage of Malaysia arrived in the federal capital as the Malaysian Food Festival was inaugurated at Islamabad Serena Hotel on Wednesday.

The event was formally opened by High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Dato Azhar bin Mazlan, along with General Manager of Serena Hotel, Christoph Hoeflich, in a colorful ribbon-cutting ceremony. Diplomats, business community members, food connoisseurs, and media representatives attended the opening ceremony.

A special highlight of the festival is the participation of Chef Pathmanathann Balagangdaram, a renowned culinary expert from Malaysia, who has spearheaded the entire activity. Chef Pathmanathann not only curated the festival menu but also captivated audiences with his live cooking demonstrations, showcasing the art of preparing Malaysia’s most iconic dishes.

Speaking on the occasion, the Malaysian High Commissioner highlighted the close cultural and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Pakistan. He said that food is one of the most powerful bridges between nations, as it offers a glimpse into history, traditions, and the warm hospitality of its people. “Through this festival, we wish to bring a taste of Malaysia to our Pakistani friends,” he added.

The festival features an extensive menu of authentic Malaysian dishes, prepared by expert chefs who have specially flown in from Malaysia. Guests can savor signature delicacies such as nasi lemak, satay, laksa, rendang, and traditional Malaysian desserts, offering a unique culinary experience.

Christoph Hoeflich, General Manager Serena Hotel, welcomed the collaboration with the Malaysian High Commission and expressed the hotel’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange through cuisine. He noted that Serena Hotels regularly hosts international food festivals to celebrate diversity and provide guests with an opportunity to experience global flavors.

The Malaysian Food Festival will continue till September 10 at Islamabad Serena Hotel, giving food enthusiasts and families in the capital city an opportunity to explore Malaysia’s renowned culinary delights in a festive ambiance.
