Maryam Nawaz announces major development packages for Murree

LAHORE, OCT 1 – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a comprehensive development package for Murree, highlighting healthcare, transport, tourism, and infrastructure projects.

She said Murree was not just a hill station but her second home, deeply connected to her family’s legacy.

While inaugurating the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Center in Samli on Wednesday, Maryam Nawaz said her childhood was spent in Murree and she knew the area as well as Lahore. She added that if Nawaz Sharif had a home outside Lahore, it was here in Murree.

Healthcare projects for Murree

Maryam Nawaz announced that a modern hospital would be built in Bhurban, while Murree’s first cardiology hospital had already begun operations. She praised the Rawalpindi Cardiac team and said surgical services would also be launched soon, sparing residents and tourists from traveling long distances for treatment.

She further revealed plans to build a 110-bed hospital in Kotli and mentioned that new health centers and mobile clinics were already functional in the area.

Transport and tourism facilities

The Chief Minister announced several transport initiatives, including:

  • A new train service from Rawalpindi to Murree.
  • 15 green buses to facilitate tourists.
  • Upcoming electric buses to improve eco-friendly transport.

Maryam Nawaz said a special force had also been formed in Murree to assist visitors, while an expressway and improved road networks had already boosted tourism.

Infrastructure and environmental development

Highlighting Murree’s transformation, she said:

  • A multi-billion rupee water supply scheme was underway.
  • Schools in Murree were being upgraded.
  • A wildlife park was being planned to enhance the region’s natural beauty.
  • She also warned that illegal constructions would not be allowed to spoil Murree’s landscape.
